New paradigms of the issue – why literature should be free

The secular view of the artist or writer working in his office, only and hungry and living in dangerous conditions, is indeed a lasting solution and is also one that most artists and writers easily reject if given the chance. Unfortunately, most developing artists must support at least a period of extreme poverty and therefore improve their skills and fight for recognition. The public, instead of relying on the company to support the creative brain usually dedicated to making fun of those who have not yet achieved the notoriety, while rewarding often ridicule those who have the opportunity to be signed by major publishing houses and promotional interests. The final (and loved) writer Kurt Vonnegut repeated often feel that felt like an incredible opportunity, because he personally knew at least a dozen writers who were so talented, maybe more, than it was and did not get the recognition (not to mention any financial reward).

Without doubt, a certain amount of luck is involved when a writer of a contract with a publisher. Many aspire to this recognition (worthy or not), so that the artist wants his work is exposed to a wider audience? In this era of promoting high-budget, mass media and instant gratification, it is easy to forget that works like Lady Chatterley's Lover, DH Lawrence and Sense and sensibility of Jane Austen originally private publications of the authors and their friends and family. In fact, the list of titles self-published, and writers who acted as his own editor, is pretty much what you'd expect:

Remembrance of Things Past by Marcel Proust Ulysses, James Joyce
The Adventures of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter
A Time to Kill by John Grisham
The wealthy barber by David Chilton
On the road from Madison James Waller
What Color Is Your Parachute by Richard Bolles
In Search of Excellence by Tom Peters
The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield
The Elements of Style by William Strunk Jr.
When I am an old woman I shall wear purple by Jenny Joseph

Some other authors and celebrities who are now self-published his work:

Deepak Chopra Gertrude Stein
Zane Grey
Upton Sinclair
Carl Sandburg
Ezra Pound
Mark Twain
Edgar Rice Burroughs
Stephen Crane
George Bernard Shaw
Anais Nin
Thomas Paine
Virginia Wolff
Ee cummings
Edgar Allan Poe
Rudyard Kipling
Henry David Thoreau
Benjamin Franklin
Walt Whitman
Alexandre Dumas

While it is easy to see in this list of well-known titles and authors estimated that the industry itself has been neglected often the books that have been passed, may be one primary reason for this neglect, and that reason is not ignorance or lack of vision of writing, is strictly financial.

Consider the fact that for several hundred years (or so) publication of books (and other art forms, and more) worked the system charges, allow publishers to pay authors or producers as a percentage of revenue from the sale of the book published, the cost of production is originally and usually signed by the editor. But this has not always been the dominant system by which writers and other artists were paid for their work. In the past, customers were Financial traditional artworks, commissioning artists to create works specifically for a particular purpose. Most great works of art produced in the last millennium in Europe was carried out as part of the sponsorship, so it may be noted that the fee system is in itself, for practical purposes a relatively new field, and also what has become the major party since the emergence of democratic and capitalist societies.

Therefore charging system for publishing, artists have never been paid as little as well while the rest of the field (if their efforts are noble or low) are doomed to darkness, silence, poverty and contempt, even. For those lucky enough to sign a contract with a publisher who is willing and able to finance a major campaign to encourage book sales, the rewards can be huge, with the writers who have been ignored and women in their attics (or Stephen King, trailer) million a day to another. Consider (and luck) of authors like JK Rowling and Dan Brown.

This system (now grouped in a consortium, if not a quasi-monopoly), which holds few in number and condemns the rest of the dark, defends his predatory behavior telling everyone that only the best writers and literature can do better through the hierarchy of the screening system (from literary agents in many cases are only slightly more literary spirit of used car dealers and ending with counters – not publishers – which ultimately determine the paths that might have a chance of financial success, and therefore shares a publisher who is ultimately instance, publish and offer the public the best of art and literature the most worthy of the time). However, this system does not function as a worthy goal, and is now totally corrupted by the profit motive and left the audience with offerings that are seeking to aspire to a higher plane?

A major reason that the Current publishing and distribution system has evolved into a heavy machine and stretched financial (often short-sighted and often hypocritical) that rewards mediocrity often targeted the lowest common denominator, regardless, if not voluntarily socket, inspiration is her tenacious efforts to maintain exclusivity. However, according to the tendencies of modern capitalism, the date, the publishing industry, once fiercely independent, subject to consolidation concentric normalization of editorial policies to meet the marketing strategies of accountants and public relations men. Twenty years ago, had thirty leading publishers in the United States today (by myself) is there. The others were swallowed – One by one – in the edition of IE Bertlesman Consortium where the objectives are global, and where the rules of the baseline.

In a system that methodically transforms art into a commodity – quality aspen if sales are brisk – supporting organizations quickly learn to feed on devouring all-powerful giant. Note that the Barnes & Noble once the corner of New York, now works a thousand stores throughout the day not only the best-selling titles Bertlesman sale, but a wide range of coffee drinks and more later self-comes with a large double latte free, while the classic James Joyce, Portrait of the artist as a young man, is now on sale in the shop of the darkest corner, or it may be available on Cliff Notes. On the Internet, shares of Amazon.com all the titles that are printed on a printing press – Or maintain – even if the price of a venerable less has been reduced almost to zero! In fact, the novel by Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Grey, have reached negative values in the books of today's edition and retail – two entities that are joined at the hip. And when art itself is devalued in a widget on sale at a night infomercial, then society and culture have deteriorated, and are all poorer for degradation, and perhaps all those responsible, too.

Installed on this system is, without doubt, there is light at the end of the tunnel. The Internet is now a writer for a place to work. In addition, the web allows anyone to promote virtually anything until cows come home. An infinite space with a low cost, the possibility of connections with other infinite mind and stakeholders across the world, virtual meeting places Sales and virtual synergy of media and technology at low prices combine to provide not only writers but artists in all disciplines, with new appointments – one with seemingly endless possibilities, and to everyone at low cost if it is incidental. The field is wide open, and it is huge, and it is egalitarian. Place like YouTube and Second Life artists offer both new and long ignored a showcase for their work and talent. The potential audience is worldwide, and also apparently interested in something that offers more than some all-too-often poor speculators monolithic. The Internet is where people and art, by its very nature, was always a local expression. Only now the concept of space has been expanded – exponentially! The prospect of a book to be stored (including hundreds of thousands of other titles) Store in a B & N miles from Miami to Seattle and San Diego to Bangor must surely pale in comparison to potential audience worldwide in hundreds of millions of Internet (With Google as head librarian). It's a new world in the history of publishing, no less, perhaps much more important than the invention of printing (which replaced at hand, a displacement machine), or use parchment (which replaced the stone tablet). Of course, the traditional publishing industry will do everything possible to deny the impact of Internet publishing, but try as they might, not be able to maintain the status quo will not be able to maintain in the future. Some recognize the inevitability of this transformation and trying to adapt. Others cling to the past, although its sales figures (and influence) to decrease steadily. But if you are a veteran of publishing, or if you are a newcomer, the fact is that in the online edition of the playing field is level, and no one has an advantage simply because it is well funded. In fact, the money may be out of the picture completely …

In a capitalist system where supply and demand always determines the availability and price off can be published online Paris assumes the role must surely. Assuming that demand for the media at all levels of quality continues to grow – and not no reason to think otherwise – and assuming that the supply line – that is, the editors of Internet in all artistic disciplines – continues to grow as a virtual price war (similar to what happened in the telecommunications industry) will result, eventually made all free media to consumers. Imagine! But if art is free (and therefore free from the restrictions on marketing and the bottom line of thought), so how is the artist or producer to pay?

As the pendulum, which will require the charging system, we now know, to make way (reluctantly in many cases, presumably) at a much earlier – namely, the secular system of patronage. Even public television stations in the U.S. operate largely through the contributions of those willing to fund high quality programs and content. Several newspaper editors continued to publish the print in the paper also operate largely through contributions customer. This system should come back because of the dispersion through a new medium. Is it completely unthinkable that instead of buying a copy of The Adventures of Alice in Wonderland in a neighborhood of B & N or Borders bookstore to read to your child, you only have to contribute to its maintenance and access online at your computer at home?

To open the books, an online publisher of classic literature, contemporary literature and nonfiction of high quality and experimental writing and multimedia presentations, we believe that the answer to this proposal is evident. Open Books publishes books online, and all titles are available for anyone to read free. By publishing their books online, efforts to open the book publishing books in a respectful environment and provide its publications to all peoples of the world, regardless of location or economic status. In the open books, we offer the classics that might otherwise not available, there are contemporary writers who might not otherwise be heard, and exposed the artists whose work might otherwise be far from ordinary commercial undertakings of the investment risk. In the books open, we believe that the art of being released, the art of fact should be free.
