Zap test anxiety in building self-esteem in young

If you are a parent, you know the importance of good education your child. Probably also feel the pressure on students to excel in the classroom and strive to be "the best." It seems that schools are meeting competing to see who can produce the greatest number of Einstein year. It is not enough not to bring home a good report, not more. Students and teachers are now under pressure for different charge state tests that could push up their school. As the saying goes, "the competition is fierce."

All this is enough to cause nervous depression. Or at least produce a cold sweat! No doubt about it – children are under enormous pressure to carry out, not surprisingly, this pressure comes much anxiety and many doubts.

So what parents and teachers can do to reduce test anxiety while increasing self-esteem among our students? According to the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), teachers and parents must work together to help children develop good study habits, first, and parental involvement is definitely key. The Parents of elementary students tend help their children more than parents of adolescents, but NASP said older students also need parental support in school. Two thirds (66 percent) of parents surveyed by the National Education Association (NEA), said college students to get their homework if your child's point of view, are an important part the learning process.

Reducing test anxiety and increased self-esteem go hand in hand if you think about it. The stronger the child feels capacity, more trust, he or she will face a test or exam. Keep doing homework during the week is a good way to keep your child on the road and be ready when the day of the test. And according to the Department www.ed.gov U.S. of Education (USDE), parents can help their children with homework in a variety of ways. Here are some suggestions:

• Set a regular time for homework – This shows your children (middle school students and secondary in particular) that, even if they are older and intelligence, which is still expected to complete its task. By setting a time with your family, you know when available to answer questions from the duties of their children and monitor their progress.
• Assist students in monitoring missions – This is not necessarily task correct each problem. Make sure you are available to meet any questions during the time allotted for the task. Even if they are unable to answer any questions or if the student does not ask, their presence shows their respect for children and support.

Needless to say that probably adequate sleep, a balanced diet and Regular exercise can improve the performance of a child in school and should be "field work" to ensure a positive school experience. In fact, a study recently showed that high school students have eight hours of sleep before taking a math test were three times more likely to understand the problem of those who stayed up all night (source: KidsHealth.org).

primary school teachers and former director of the Georgia Private School, Beth Scussel offers several suggestions to help calm an anxious child before a big test. Scussel said: "Keep your regular routine at home – going to bed that would be the usual time. Say things providing as "You are ready for this test. You'll do very well. I'm always proud of you."

As a parent with a child sometimes lacks confidence, "said Scussel can almost feel his pain as worried about exams." My son tells me that your hands are sweaty and feel your heart beating as hard as it sounds in your ears before a test. My mantra is always with him even when he's nervous – "God made you a brave boy, strong and can do it! Then he and I will reflect on the many times he was confident before, trying to make the football team, told a friend who had hurt his feelings and do not like, and read 25 books in the classroom. Then generally feel better with hugs and holding hands, "said Scussel. Helping your child to think positively and offering your breath can do wonders.

According to Math and Reading Help for Children (http://math-and-reading-halp-for-kids.org) is very important:
• Take the time to do the task (as noted above);
• Improve student / teacher relationship;
• give children fun ways to improve the skills of others, to complement the efforts homework, Sudoku, a logic game based on education, can help improve critical thinking child's math and logic. And it's fun!

As a teacher, Scussel develops and maintains relationships with students early, which contributes to promote a relaxed classroom environment, minimizing the anxiety felt by some students. "I think the self esteem of children is extremely important. I set rules and expectations on the first day of classes, and 36 Class I rules adopted by Ron Clark's Essential 55 books. We read, talk and play the role of each of them the first day. I I wrote in my room, and every child has a copy, "Scussel said." When you have a family feel to the class and the atmosphere is that of security, friendly and fun, children tend to forget their self-esteem issues. Also reward children who are reluctant to take risks and try to reward me and even children who are understanding and patient. "

Perhaps nothing helped squelch test anxiety rather than just be prepared. Explorers were right! And remember that when Mom said, "Practice makes perfect?" In fact, repetition is at stake when the student is studying for a test. I was a fan of flash memory cards and is used to cut and paste the questions in Word documents to help my children study. I have created games saw them and took the evidence of our "home" before going to school for the real thing. I ended up creating my own study site, the world Qwizzy when I could not find an online resource that worked for my purposes. What is interesting is that my children learn from their test equipment before realizing they are studying. They went their own test questions, record answers, and then passed the test they have created. Then they can do this test as many times as they wish. And they are ready when they leave for school.

Teaching my son became a fanatic. "World Qwizzy is useful for my students – they observed improvements the results of tests students have told me to remember and learn from the study. QW instead of traditional methods of study, "said high school teacher Amy Ingram. "I like to use QW in my classroom and learning through differentiated, and is an excellent tool for students preparing for the tests required by the State. "

And speaking of tests according to the state, you can purchase study guides that are full of examples of evidence that could relieve anxiety exposing students to the types of questions asked on these statewide tests. An Atlanta-based company called School Box (www.schoolbox.com) is a great resource for all types of study materials, and have a complete online store.

One last thing I wanted to share that can ease the nerves Your child is wise advice Sjöquist Kerstin, CHT You should discuss with your child to imagine your favorite place if they get exhausted during a test. Brain scans show just visualize something peaceful and happy activates the brain produce alpha waves of relaxation in less than 30 seconds, which slows the heart rate and breathing. Moments then feel more comfortable and better able to focus again!

Although we can not eliminate all our children's fears and concerns about school and the test port, can be the strongest advocates. Link love and encouragement of some of the strategies we have discussed here can go a long way to help your child succeed in school and beyond.
