After education in America No Child Left Behind: Where do we go from here?

Public schools play a vital role in the future of this nation. As I write this article, we're about to elect a new president. It is likely that a change in administration will rise to a new policy of making education. The direction and quality of this policy will have a lasting effect on our public schools and our nation whole. So where are we here?

Now, sitting in a classroom somewhere in America is a future Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, Warren Buffet and Martha Stewart. Do these students have the tools necessary to reach the top of his profession, or are we going to depend on other countries to ensure leadership in this global economy? Education can be the determining factor.

"The economy of the future will be dominated by the industries of microelectronics, telecommunications, robotics and biotechnology – not to mention the new areas that have the same has not been programmed -. "NEA Today, March 2008

The main objective of education must prepare American students for the challenge of the century workplace. It is obvious that our dropout rate is high levels of performance and students are very low. The identification of these problems can be the first step towards a solution, but current solutions do not work. Under NCLB, academic essays became the main focus of educational reform. The emphasis on test scores has forced educators to direct their energy and resources directly to the teaching of these tests. The irony is that some career-related courses and arts programs clearly motivate students to stay in school and conduct have been weakened or removed in the process. The pressure that this type of reform has been placed on educators can thwart innovation and creativity classroom. The current policy limits the ability of teachers to inspire students.

Future planning of education should include discussion on the evolution of technologies and introduce students to the need for continuous learning. Programs such as Tech-Prep, School to Work and Training Schools were able to present these ideas to some high school students, but was not very far. No plan is complete without a delivery system that motivates and inspires students to learn. The plan must be implemented before the school and the potential impact of each student. When students are motivated to learn, test results are rise. So where are we here?

A successful plan for education include structured partnerships. As described in De the future together, educators should not plan or implement a program in isolation. Through structured partnerships with people who are interested in education (business, industry and other organizations in the community) of each program gets stronger and benefit all students. Trade and industry have an important role in student success. If prospective clients, customers and qualified employees if the school system? The partnerships bring us closer as a community to to address our common concerns and benefits everyone. Since we all have an interest for the student who leaves our school system, the number of potential partners is almost unlimited.

A successful partnership with business school is well structured, sustainable and clearly designed to show students the relationship between education and the world beyond the school walls. This approach has an interest in learning and help motivate students and schools. As mentioned above, students perform better in class and the highest score in tests if they understand the importance of the object they are supposed to learn.

From this first step toward building a successful partnership can be a challenge, but the result is that everyone wins. As a new administration takes office in Washington DC and a new education policy is formulated, we have the opportunity to gain some ground we have lost in recent years. Looking to the future of education as a partner gives us a solid base on which to build.
