The Chronicles of Narnia, a seven-volume series for children by CS Lewis, reveals that there is a world parallel to our own, populated by men and women dwarves and talking animals, giants and mermaids, centaurs and fauns, and ruled by a kind of lion, but surprisingly ferocious giant named Aslan. Lewis, who died same day as John F. Kennedy, 22 November 1963, combined the three passions of his life – classical mythology, medieval science, and philosophy of inspiration Christian – the creation of Narnia in a microcosm of the moral struggles of our world is facing.
Characters and plot
With Aslan himself, the hero of the Narnia books are the four Pevensie siblings, Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy. Taken from his home in London to avoid the Nazi bombings are addressed with a university teacher aged in his mansion in the country travel.
While playing hide and seek, Lucy, the youngest at 8 years, hidden in an old closet full of racks of coats. Movement to escape detection, it finds its way from the shelters, waiting to hit the back of the closet at any time. Lucy feels rather Evergreen branches of trees, hear the crunch of snow at his feet and sees the light away from a lamp, like those he had seen Once back lot in London.
This marks the beginning of the adventures of four siblings many Narnia. Each of the books, despite a slight association with others, are also independent. Finally, we learn that the light has come and how the wardrobe became a portal. Aslan also learn what is needed to be your friend, and who are its enemies.
The deeper meaning
For those who know how to search for knew Lewis' Narnia, not only with interesting characters, landscapes, and exciting action, but also with Christian allegory. Aslan is Jesus Christ himself, "The lion of the tribe of Judah" (Revelation 7:14). The Pevensie siblings return to Narnia so comfortable that they consider their homeland and the world as a place where visitors. Lewis, in his books on Christian apologetics, describes the spiritual world as existing with physics, with the quality of being, without a shadow and is negligible compared with the physical, but more real, more colorful, and much, much more alive.
As Paul explains,
… Many live as enemies of the Cross of Christ. Their destiny is destruction, their god is their belly, and whose glory is their shame. His mind is on earthly things. But our citizenship is in the sky. And we eagerly await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ …. – Philippians 3:18-20 (see also Hebrews 11:13-16).
The Disney
The first book of the seven, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, is now the subject of a major film produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media and directed by Andrew Adamson. At the climax of the story is a sacrifice beautiful photos of Lewis's death of Christ.
If you go movies, watching the breaking of the stone table, which symbolizes how the death and resurrection of Christ brought about by the end of the Law of Moses to respond to requests for atonement by blood. See also the role of Susan and Lucy play in witnessing the death and rebirth of Aslan, which corresponds to the historical role of women in mourning Jesus' death and the funeral and the first witnesses of his resurrection.
The professor helps Peter and Susan to sort how to receive the testimony of Lucy in Narnia: if not a liar and is not crazy, then logically you must tell the truth. This is the testimony of Jesus on their own identity, his testimony and gave the following about it – what Lewis calls the trilemma others about Jesus: He is Lord, liar or fool?
Another significant parallel: Aslan faithful play an important role in the fight against the White Witch. As our spiritual warfare, Christ ensures the final victory, but calls his disciples to a personal involvement in the struggle. For the relevant passages of this conflict, see Ephesians 6:10-18, 2 Corinthians 10:3-5, 1 Timothy 1:18-20, 1 Timothy 6:12, 2 Timothy 4:7).
Plans are six more films to follow this principle, in which the rest of the Narnia story takes place. If you are faithful to the books and was well-designed products, each of irreducible we welcome fans of Lewis Narnia as an introduction to a world weary. We hope that viewers will understand and appreciate the characteristics allegorical provided to the history of the area. The goal is not just about Aslan and Narnia, but to become his friend and subject to and living in his kingdom forever.
