WHy do people believe in this stupid book, the infancy gospel of thomas..?
It is written in the same sentence structure and narrative style (ie arabic culture) as the Koran, although I don’t think even the muslims would have agreed that Jesus sinned as a child… It has a definite arabic writing style. The early apolstles would have had nothing to do with it….this stupid book is garbage…Will people just lust after every piece of junk out there , instead of searching for the truth..? are people so mindless that they believe everything they come across without questioning the authenticity?
The book is a hoax.
Well, no, it is not “as valid” as the other gospels. When the patriarchs of the new religion, in the second century began to consider that the various narratives and epistles floating around should probably constitute a scripture, they began the process of distilling the best ones.
Starting with Marcion, they tended to choose the ones that are still canonical today. Why?
- Because they are the only ones actually written in the first century, the time of Jesus.
- Because they jibed with the oral traditions of the church, as well as the handful of details in the Pauline and Johannine epistles.
- Because the narrative elements in the gospels could be cross-referenced with the other historical data available to them at the time, such as Pilate’s records (which St. Justin martyr alludes existed at the time in his letters.)
All the other stuff – Gospel of Peter, Thomas, Thomas Infancy – was discarded. I can’t think of even one of the ante-nicene fathers who ever took Thomas Infancy seriously. Those writings came from another cult, and had little to do with the Christian church.
