Kanji Japanese rule – 7 guerrilla tactics

The adoption around the sixth century by the Japanese Kanji emissaries China has been a blessing for Japanese, as it was the first appearance in written language. At the same time, when the act was intended to look like a curse to thousands of Japanese natives who have not tried his hand at learning kanji. Otherwise said: Mastering kanji is hard!

For the western type of brain has risen to a language based on the Indo-European alphabet such as English, Spanish or German, the opportunity to learn and master kanji presents a particular challenge. Each kanji is a pictogram, ideogram or phono-semiotic (aïe!) characters and can contain up to twenty individual traits should be established in a particular order. Most of the kanji have three or more possible pronunciations and should be used in combination with one or more kanji to form a word.

So where to start on the road toward mastery? Rather than repeat the ideas in the mastery of the kanji, I will share with you seven tactics that I learned as a veteran scholar kanji.

In my case, I needed all the help we can get: After four years of college Japanese, I was still a rookie kanji. The secrets we share with you here now hard-earned knowledge that helped me pass the level 1 (most difficult) of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) after only 15 months self-study while working full time. And the beauty of it is: you can use where you are now master kanji.

Tactic # 1: Ignore This study classical order:

Of course, start with the first 100 to 200 of the jouyou 1945 (common) kanji until you get your feet wet. But then, to deepen the hardest when you fall on them, no matter how familiar. This may seem like a hard way to walk in the first place but for the moment need to save to distinguish between the kanji in his study of the list and you are saving for later, more time and energy they can devote to study.

Tactic No. 2: Shares of rooms:

First learn the meaning of 20 or 30 of the most common of the 214 radicals (eg, blocks, basic construction of the kanji) found on the inside cover of any kanji dictionary familiar with most of the kanji you encounter. A Once you do, you reap rewards as you begin to see each new kanji as a puzzle to decipher. You will recognize the various components of the new kanji right to now. This process is called "segmentation" and is as follows: learning from three, five components of strokes of a kanji is much easier than trying Remembrance every two shots. The knowledge of the components and the rest will only be a matter of putting the pieces together.

Tactic # 3: Go to the right of difficult things:

This applies in particular to the study of writing rather than the individual kanji. Even if you are a beginner, go ahead and read a text little progress every day (newspapers, books, etc.) This method is ideal for learning the most common combinations of kanji that occur in their natural environment. Thus, each configuration of apparently foreign movements will quickly become a second nature to you.

Tactic # 4: Read aloud

There are three important aspects of the mastery of Kanji: recognize the structure / shape, know what it means and be able to pronounce correctly. One way very effective way of studying is to read aloud whenever possible. Kanji reading aloud is a great way to kill three birds (learning structure and form, meaning and sound) noise with a huge stone.

Tactic # 5: Take your time to choose their preferred learning materials:

One or more of a number of features a kanji dictionary and data from the study guide (eg, font and size, look and feel of the binding, cover design, paper quality: the photo of the author or the smell of the ink) can affect whether you want to know more, or simply ask to see the Discovery Channel instead. Pay attention to your first impressions: if a book was recommended by a friend as "best ever", but does not seem to click with her boldly aside and move on. You will be rewarded with retention much better if you study the use of materials that you feel most comfortable.

Tactic # 6: Use multiple sources of writing:

Science tells us that our brain is "plastic" in the connections between brain cells is stronger and more abundant when we are exposed to stimuli new. Therefore, be sure to expose you to countless kanji forms are represented in written form: books, newspapers, magazines, manga, posters, legal documents his bill wastewater (if you live in Japan), cereal boxes – you name it! You will be rewarded with a fast rate of retention of kanji.

Tactic # 7: Avoid hanging rebels

Set aside special cases like the kanji can not seem to stick in your mind instead of keeping them as part of its regular study routine. This provides two powerful benefits. All First, you can start feeling well again in the kanji that you learn very well (thanks) and and maintain a pace that gives group review. Second, to isolate the troublemakers who make a point of honor to study in their own terms and what are thus increasing your speed control.

While the convention money, and take the path of becoming a master of kanji!
