books million hours
History essay. Please help. I have a million books on how to do it, but of got myself into a frenzy.?

This is uni level and my first, it also has to be in within 72 hours. I have made myself ill from worry and that’s why i’m late. 1-The introduction- Is that just explaining the question and how i’m answering it? 2-The argument- what argument? is this the proof of what I’m writing? etc, etc, etc. Please help, I’ve done plenty of reading and just don’t know how to break it down. P.s, It’s on the making of europe 1100-1300.

It sounds as if you understand the process you should follow – your analysis of the introduction and argument is spot on and I guess you also know that your conclusion should summarise the outcome of your research and that you should add a list of your sources.

So take a few slow deep breaths, make yourself a hot drink and write out your essay plan just like you’ve described it for us. Then write a few lines about each topic you need to cover in your argument and what books/sources you recall as being really helpful and relevant. Don’t worry about the others, the ones that stick in your mind are going to be most useful at this stage.

Take a five minute or ten minute breather, maybe walk outside for a few minutes in the fresh air, get a glass of water and get down to it. Follow your essay plan.

When you feel tired, rest or sleep, then get back to it. When you feel hungry, eat, then get back to it. When you panic, stop work, get out of your chair, stretch, and breathe deeply – it will help. You can’t panic if you are fully focussed on regular deep breathing – your body simply won’t do it.

When you’ve finished, have a short break then read it over and review it, making any small changes or polishing things up a little if you need to. Then hand it in, and think about how you can avoid this panic next time.

If you didn’t plan out your study and essay timetable properly, you’ve learned from it and can do better in future. If you’re not used to the uni schedules yet, you now know what you need to do in future.

If your tutor set an unreasonable or unusual deadline, you might want to discuss this with him/her in a quiet, non-confrontational way – just say that you found the deadline really difficult, especially as you’re not used to writing essays at this level yet, and were worried because you want to do well.

Remember that this is only the first essay of a three- or four-year course. You’ll have plenty more opportunities to do your best work, and you’ll gradually improve as time goes on. Your understanding and the maturity of your analysis will deepen and broaden, and your ability to manage your study time and plan your work will enable you to work without panic or undue stress. You’re at the beginning of a new stage in your learning process. If you could handle it perfectly right now, without help, you really wouldn’t need to bother with university, would you?

If you find that you tend to panic and get very stressed, you need to make time regularly to help yourself calm down. Yoga, meditation or sports can all help. I find running very calming and a great stress reliever, but yoga also works well for me, especially when I can’t get outside. Ten minutes’ yoga in the morning will help you focus for the day, and you can use the breathing techniques whenever you need to.

Plan the next essay in good time so you can enjoy it, and plan stress relief into your life so that university can be an enjoyable experience. Best of luck.

He’s had some good performances in supporting parts, but Richard Pryor never starred in a film that captured his comic brilliance the way his concert films did–proving that magic isn’t something you can bottle. This 1985 film is no exception, even though it was directed by Walter Hill three years after he turned Eddie Murphy into a movie star with 48 HRS. The seventh film reworking of a warhorse …
