Most helpful music theory book?
I’m a guitarist and have been playing for seven years, and it’s about time I started to learn music theory. I was wondering what books you have found most helpful in your musical development, and which books you would avoid. Please answer based on experience with the book you suggest.
Take lessons from a teacher whose playing you like. You have to understand the SOUND that a particular piece of theoretical knowledge relates to, and it will be very hard to do this by yourself with ANY book. A good teacher will show you what different intervals, chord colors, scales, modes and so on sound like, how to make those sounds yourself, and then how to apply this knowledge in different situations.
