Does anyone make quality products anymore?
Why do products have to be such lousy junk? Why can’t anything durable be manufactured anymore? It is especially annoying because I do not buy the cheapest item and it still ends up breaking. What does it take to get a quality item in 2009? This isn’t a “real” problem but it is very annoying. In the past year I have had to return under warranty:
*carabiner coffee mug (hooks to your book bag) the carabiner broke in one week.
*a steam iron (top rated from consumer reports) – leaked
*paper shredder _ would not turn on
*iphone – battery
*iMac – logic board
*a “pre seasoned” cast iron pan that rusted in one night when it contacted a little water
*a blender that lasted 4 months
In the old days, the phrase “You get what you pay for” really does not apply any more. I am in the export business, I have bought items at 1.00usd that lasted 5 years. Other items at 6,000usd top of the line items which lasted 2 weeks.
Many if not most, “TOP” lines sell licenses to smaller factories to produce parts, these little factories look at profit, so cost cutting is their main objective. It is also the goal of the big business which they supply. Many “American” brands you see on the market are produced at least in part in China. But the buyer doesn’t know it. Usually these factories do produce higher quality parts but not always.
