Origins of the word "rainbow" in Spanish?
Rainbow is the most common word for the rainbow in Spanish? If so, Why the mention of Iris. Iris is not the mythological Roman god of the rainbow? Why not use the Spanish language in the Book of Genesis in the Bible? As Spanish-speaking countries are predominantly Catholic, I am surprised to see a source of mythology rather than the Bible. I have to make a correction. Iris is the rainbow god Greek, the Roman god. I am surprised that Spanish-speaking Christians were not conducive to the change of use of rain bow instead of Arco Iris
As far as I know, "Arco Iris" is the most common way that rainbow in Spanish. I imagine that the reference Iris is used because the Spanish god was formed Vulgar Latin (among other languages). This would explain the reference to a Roman god.
