christian books for soldiers
Is this anti-semitic?

My mother is “Jewish”…and by “Jewish” I mean that she goes around saying that she’s Jewish when she doesn’t practice the religion or believe in it at all. She just says that she is because it’s part of her heritage. Her parents didn’t practice it either.

The issue with this is that I have gotten engaged to a Christian man and I have decided to be baptised and become a Christian.

My mother is threatening to not come to my wedding, and to withdrawal all funds if I do not carry a prayer book that was distributed to Jewish soldiers in WWI that she carried at her wedding, and her mother at her’s. I do not want to carry this book because I am not Jewish, and it seems silly for a Christian bride to carry a book intended for Jews. I think it symbolizes that the bride is Jewish, which I am not.

My parents, especially my mother are insisting that this is anti-semitic. What do you think?

Not it is not anti-semitic. You are the one getting married, not your mom, so you decide what you carry and what you don’t. You said that your mom isn’t even a practicing Jew so why would it even matter to her? I agree that if you are not Jewish, it makes no sense to carry something that goes against your beliefs.

The Hurt Locker

The Hurt Locker

The making of honest action movies has become so rare that Kathryn Bigelow’s magnificent The Hurt Locker was shown mostly in art cinemas rather than multiplexes. That’s fine; the picture is a work of art. But it also delivers more kinetic excitement, more breath-bating suspense, more putting-you-right-there in the danger zone than all the brain-dead, visually incoherent wrecking derbies hogging ma…
