Which PDAs are compatible with Win98se? Need advice…?
I just wanted to have fun with surfing the net, read the ebooks and listen to MP3 files, not very into viewing photos or videos….I’m also not those salespeople who use PDAs for their business….Should have wider screen as well….Any recommendation as to which models are most suitable to my needs?…
The device should be able to transfer the PDF files on my Win98se to it and use the viewer to read the files….
Devices themselves don’t have desktop OS compatibility as such. What you need to consider is whether the Sync software will run under the OS concerned.
If either Palm Destop, or ActiveSync don’t run with that OS, then you effictively wipe out all PalmOS or all Windows Mobile PDAs from your list of possibilities.
ActiveSymc 4 only claims compatibility with Windows 2000 and later, for example, so that would wipe out any PocketPC device running Windows Mobile 5 or 6 – basically, anything released in the last 3 years.
AS3 supports Windows 98 but that means you’re looking at eBay as a source of a PPC2003 operating system device.
Palm desktop claims compatibility with Windows98 but since Palm haven’t made much progress in devices in the last 2 or 3 years anyway, you’re still looking at three year old technology. At least you can still buy them new though.
Given the above, from your ‘wider screen’ statement it’s looking like a Palm TX or nothing!
