Will books every go away?
I read quite a bit on my free time to self study my job (mostly IT related books) and me and a coworker had an argument today that in 10 years, they will stop writing books and most of the learning done in the future will be done through watching videos and tutorials online.
Now maybe I am crazy, but I know with e-book readers, I believe that in 10 years, most books will be created and read on electronic devices. That I believe. But could our world get so lazy that to the point they just stop writing books and textbooks. Could they just say screw it to this whole reading thing, and all learning will be done through podcasts, videos, etc… I hope not!!!
Your co-worker is just plain wrong.
Think of five books you’ve read which became good movies. Not crummy movies, good ones. Mystic River? The Godfather, parts one and two? Field of Dreams? Pick your own five, whatever they may be. If you can do ten, that’s even better.
Now think about all the material that was in the book that wasn’t in the movie, good though the film may have been. You think readers are just going to give up all that richness which simply can’t be crammed into a 120-minute movie? I certainly don’t.
