How do I get pdb ebooks on to my Sony Reader or what should I do to convert it so I can access it on my reader?
I recently received a Sony Reader for Christmas and downloaded some free ebooks from Barnes and Noble. As I downloaded the books and imported then to my reader library, I had some issues. A few of the books were in pdb format while the rest were in epub format. The epub formated files imported successfully while the pdb ones did not. Please try to be as helpful as you can. I am not an expert at all when it comes to computers and formatting. Thanks for your advice, help and time.

If they’re DRM’d pdbs (most of them would be), you’d have to use DRM-cracking software to get them onto the Sony. Barnes & Noble is being real jerks about their ebooks–they won’t tell you what filetypes they are before purchase, won’t refund them, and insist that their ebooks are only designed for theirs software & a limited range of their chosen devices.
http://www.processtext.com/abcpalm.html will convert PDB files that don’t have DRM. The free ones might work with that.
Unlocking the DRM’d ones is more difficult; it either takes paid software, or installing Python on your computer and learning to use scripts with that. http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20407 has intro information, but no direct links to the software (they won’t share DRM-cracking tools directly); http://darkreverser.wordpress.com/2008/02/13/new-blog/ has the links to the scripts.
