History
In 1989, Ronald Perelman's MacAndrews & Forbes Holdings, a group of companies bought Marvel Entertainment Group, the parent company of Marvel Comics, New World Entertainment for $ 82,500,000.
"This is a mini-Disney in terms of intellectual property," said Perelman. "Got Disney characters is much more accepted and weaker characters, while the characters are called action hero. But now we at Marvel in the creation and marketing of the characters. "
Driven by marketing massive price increases of Marvel comics, and a general boom in the comic industry, Marvel's earnings spiked. Perelman later added the map card baseball and basketball companies face and SkyBox International Corporation, Panini Italian label manufacturing group, and publishers Cartoon Welsh edition and Malibu Comics Marvel at the farm for a combined total of $ 700 million. Investors around the world recognized his efforts and generated $ 80 million for Perelman when Marvel issued initial public offering. Then he added a significant stake in Toy Biz to Marvel farms. His luck did not last long. Marvel attempted to distribute their products directly led to declining sales and losses worsened in the band bubble burst Marvel comic books in 1994, the Major League strike Baseball killed the benefits of face and Panini division was hampered by poor box office projections Disney (Disney licenses provided a source of income for Panini so when the results of bad movies Panini poor results). The largest bondholder, Carl Icahn, fought to take control of the company Perelman. The two men were not as Toy Biz Owners Ike Perlmutter and Avi Arad of Marvel from Perelman and Icahn started to protect their own financial interests. Estimates of transaction gains vary widely. Chuck Rozanski estimates that Perelman made Marvel 200,400 million, Forbes believes that doing nothing and the trial judge in the bankruptcy Marvel is estimated that 280 million dollars plus various tax advantages. In December 2003, Marvel Entertainment has acquired focus on the concepts of Hearst Communications, Inc. On March 15, 2007, Stan Lee Media filed a lawsuit against Marvel Entertainment for $ 5, claiming the company is co-owner of the characters Lee created for Marvel. In addition, a trial on the basis of ownership of Ghost Rider was presented March 30, 2007 by Gary Friedrich, Gary Friedrich Enterprises, Inc.
On August 31, 2009, The Walt Disney Company announced an agreement to acquire Marvel Entertainment for $ 4 billion, with Marvel's shareholders to receive $ 30 and about of 0,745 shares for each share of Disney Marvel that they own. The vote took place on December 31, 2009 and the merger was approved. The acquisition was completed Marvel hours after the shareholder vote, giving full ownership of Disney Marvel Entertainment. The company stopped trading on the NYSE under the symbol (OTC), due to the closing of the transaction.
