Stories and poems for children: A family reading night

Read children's stories and poems aloud to their children is a critical step in teaching your child to read, but has a wonderful and hidden advantage. When you take the time to read to your children that you take time with them, no distractions, no cell phone, no computer, no TV. You are demonstrating that they are an important priority for you. I love this special time with you, regardless of age.

Much of our time to read aloud the story led to a big heart to heart discussions. Read stories together gives us time to stop and a reason to talk things that might not be one every day. The stories are a wonderful way to learn life lessons, reinforce good choices, positive moral model and open the door to discuss the difficulties of life such as illness or death, meetings or peer pressure.

As older children and moves into the material reading more difficult to benefit greatly from the discussions that will occur during story time. Keep the lines of communication open with your children simply reading them. The relationship and communication that your family read aloud time can prepare you to perform what could be very difficult teenager years.

There is just something magical about the stories. We are all trapped in them, regardless of our age. Sometimes my older son wanted no part of our time game because you're too busy to listen to music on your iPod, but it is inevitable that, as we enter the story, which is introduced into the chamber where it was. He can not stop listening to – and usually sits with us for the rest of the story.

Overnight school history home this week, and if your children put more eyes on you just smile, they will learn to love this special time with you.
