multicultural book suggestions?
I want my children growing up without a lot of ethnic prejudices that afflict our society, I am building his (or her) a library of books with multicultural characters. The problem is that most books I've seen a child the color as the main character in the book. I'm afraid this is going to be very confusing for my child as he or she will be white like me and my husband. Anyone can suggest books that the main character is white (preferably a girl), but has a large circle of friends and acquaintances who are people of color? I prefer a book without gay characters. I mean, I know I have to explain to some measure by which no longer speak of Uncle Gabriel, but it can wait a bit. I also prefer books that do not have exotic animals or reptiles as pets and that the mother does not work outside the home. Thanks!
