The life of Ian Fleming

This year marks the centenary of Ian Fleming, whose time spent in Naval Intelligence during World War II was be the catalyst that led to the creation of James Bond, the most iconic of fiction in the 20 century.

The life of Ian Fleming

Fleming was born on May 28, 1908 Mayfair, a fashionable district of London, and his early years were entirely privileged. However, the First World War meant that Fleming lost my father and from that moment he met his life dominated by his mother, who was affectionately nicknamed "M".

Fleming's education and career earlier have been fully without incident and after several failed attempts, was sent to Moscow to cover the trial shows a number of employees Vickers under Stalin, a of their first wins.

With the outbreak of war in 1939, Fleming was recruited by Naval Intelligence Admiral John Godfrey counter, as director of Naval Intelligence assistant. First as a lieutenant in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve (RNVR), was promoted to Lieutenant Commander, then Commander, the grade was assigned later James Bond.

Although he saw no action during the war, participated in some of the operations of Britain's top secret and directly responsible for the design a series of plans.

After the cessation of hostilities Fleming went to work as External Affairs Manager for the Kemsley Newspapers, owner of The Sunday Times. His job was to use his contacts to create a network of reporters who feuded with Reuters and one of the main terms of his contract allowed him to two months each year holidays.

This time has been devoted to Goldeneye, his house in Jamaica, and this, in 1952 began writing "Casino Royale", presumably to distract his impending marriage.

Casino Royale was published in 1953 and immediately attracted the attention of the United Kingdom. It took several other books and the emergence of Russia, Love to the playlist from JFK to James Bond to really take off in the U.S. but there was no turning back and with a series of films beginning in 1962 with Dr. No phenomenon Bond took off.

Unfortunately Ian Fleming did not live to enjoy his success and died August 8, 1964, before the release of the famous third film 007, Goldfinger.

Centennial Celebration

Fans of spy fiction have much to look forward in 2008 with a series of events expected. The Royal Mail issued a special series of stamps covers six of the fourteen books. The stamps are Casino Royale and Dr No first class stamps, while seals Airmail function Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever, For Your Eyes Only and From Russia with love.

The Imperial War Museum is currently hosting an exhibition entitled For Your Eyes Only – Ian Fleming and James Bond, focusing on Fleming and his creation in a historical context. This is the first major exhibition devoted to Ian Fleming and how his experience in Naval Intelligence and the climate of the war have affected 007 pounds and runs the James Bond phenomenon.

On the centenary of Fleming will marked by the publication of a new 007 novel by Sebastian Faulks. Title Devil May Care, the book follows the chronology see Fleming and James Bond is back in action in the decade 1960. The book was commissioned by Ian Fleming Publications Ltd. and published in the UK by Penguin Books.

As if that's not enough for the Bond fan in 2008 also see the return of Daniel Craig in the new Eon Productions James Bond film. Currently scheduled for November, the episode 22 of the highly anticipated series after the show sandy Craig Bond in Casino Royale.
