South Whidbey Island is a paradise Northwest

Spend some time exploring Puget Sound and will be both surprised and delighted by the islands, waterways and hundreds of miles of coastline, offering visitors thousands of opportunities for landscape photos with the treasure of their lives. Tourist Attractions on a sunny day and no more beautiful place on earth.

The most surprising thing is that you do not have to travel far from Seattle to discover some of the landscapes this beautiful corner of the state of the island has to offer. If time permits, San Juan Islands are an unforgettable experience. But if you want to travel more than an hour or more, many of these attributes are in Whidbey Island.

Our recent trip to South Whidbey Island is a great example of achieving the maximum change of scenery in the short period of time. Seattle is only half an hour or more to the north Mukilteo, where the ferry serves as a gateway to Puget Sound island culture. You can take a hourly ferry from Mukilteo to Whidbey Island southern tip.

Unless you are arriving to traffic spikes – like the trip Friday night – most the time of day and the week she will be short. Arriving in Mukilteo there are many signs to direct traffic to the landing, and once there is a simple matter driving through a toll booth – where you only pay a few dollars for your car and passengers – and then a line where you can wait several minutes for the next ferry to arrive. Washington State Ferries in the fingers boarding process – all move effectively and it is impressive that so many cars are capable of climbing and off the ferry in minutes.

Once on the ferry is maybe a 20 minute drive to cross the channel and before you know it, you've come to the island. There is evidence your destination north of the island and you realize you have very quickly traded to Seattle agitation congested roads that glide over hills and Whidbey valleys. Now, instead of row houses and the people without end, you see houses and open fields planted garden or crops, barns and 4X4 novelty of this suspicion is not that a few gentlemen farmers in residence here.

Take a look at your watch and see that the second hand moves a little slower now – or so it seems. You are on "island time" now and the sooner you get used to it, before unzipping it completely – and anti-stress – from their daily work.

Our destination for the evening was Langley, a charming coastal town with very small a dozen miles from the ferry terminal. With its historic Main Street – technically He is 1 of the street – and eclectic shops, it is not surprising that this little berg is a magnet for artists and people who feel a rejuvenation of the mind as seen through the views of the city of Saratoga Passage at Camano Island across the water. The city is very popular as a day trip – The time from the Downtown Seattle has been less than 90 minutes – and the availability of several good houses, as well as an escape route for the evening.

Before we checked in accommodation for the night, we take time to stroll through the center. It was mid-week and traders were far from busy, no doubt hoping the weekend when the city was under siege almost by visitors. On this day there were only a few cars parked in the center, only a few people browsing the shops and practically any benefit of taking the coastal areas, where you will find picnic tables with some of the best views in the Northwest.

If you take the time to wander by the city, you can find places like the garden shed where they specialize in "chocolate" plants – but not get too excited because this is not the kind you eat. They are chocolate, because they are dark and you can get more information if you do, and explore the campus to downtown Saratoga chocolate highway.

Close Star magazine is a market that has been in business 90 years commercial. Nearby is the grass and watch Helsel Langley Gallery, where you learn about watches of all kinds. Best Whidbey Island artists show their work at the Museum, also in the small group of low buildings on 1 street. Do not miss Moonraker Books, bookstore Regional Superior. But the busiest in the city that day was the thrift store, a remarkable collection of high quality garments and other items used to bargain prices.

We took a few minutes to check the Inn at Langley, final superior accommodation on the beach adjacent to downtown. We talked a few minutes Matt Costello and the leader has visited the elaborate cuisine and charm. We have taken note of the panoramic views of hostel units, while above the water and took note that it would be a great place to stay during your next visit.

Soon it was time to register at the hostel we had booked for the night – the inn Shipyard, a unique and comfortable place situated on the water only a quarter of a mile or more from downtown. Mynd Myres host showed us to our series of 600-meter study square, which proved perfect for both. Our suite has an excellent combination of style and utility.

With its high ceilings, the room seemed more spacious than most, and have updated furnishings from top to bottom. Only bathroom faucets offered any indication that this was anything but new. A gas fireplace keeps the room as needed on the grill, when there was a dining room and a sofa and chairs with a flat screen TV wall. Well I had a full kitchen, had a refrigerator, dishwasher, stove, counters and basic needs to prepare something light to eat. The bed was placed in a slightly larger part of the workshop is to bring more interesting page.

The bed elevated means that even if it arises to sleep, we could see the windows in our view Relaxing Puget Sound. We also enjoyed sitting on your private terrace watching the cruise ships pass Saratoga. They are not near the old docks, is projected onto the step but not appear to decrease the point of view. And we enjoyed exploring the beach is right at your doorstep hostel.

We enjoyed the dinner again at the center City in a unusually good restaurant, Bistro Prima. The dishes here are high level but not above or in terms of presentation or price. Located on the second floor of a historic building, the restaurant was busy that night during the week – shows a lot of favor with local residents – and the service could not be better. Our High-level dishes – The Steak Frites is the suspension of beef meat Oregon, Ajol blue cheese, sauteed escarole and potato in French, and a steelhead trout Grenoble iris lemon with fried capers, potatoes and fry sticks. Each was less than $ 20.

The next day, we drove about 20 minutes south of Whidbey State Park where we have fulfilled our short break with a trip to the beach and the beach serious scrutiny. It is a half-mile track that is relatively strong in the return trip, but well worth the sorry for the picturesque views and this proved to be a complete solitude on a sunny day. Although we have not seen the whales, you could locate a nuclear submarine returned to Bangor – where was a very interesting place to spend the morning before catching the ferry back to the car and our return to civilization.
