Blogs: the decline in communications technology?
As technologies evolve, change communication. For a time, blogs have been regarded as the hottest new form of communication. What is innovative about blogs? Does the blogs? Blogs are really going to be mode communication for the next hundred years are but a moment in blogs pan?
To give you an idea of where blogs place in the context communication, I have outlined about how communication has developed over the years.
A little
– Before printing, communication was all one by one. Although the books do not circulate, there was a public reading and books are not mass produced.
One to Many
– The advent of printing in book form one to many: an author could reach an audience of thousands in a single drawing. This was seen as the normal form communication with other technologies, including television, newspapers, radio and film. A person (or group) may create a message that is transmitted a wider audience.
Many Many
– New technologies foster communication of many to many. The blog is a forum where anyone can author. Wikis encourage broad participation. This could be considered as a democratization of knowledge production, because many people can now produce, but there is also a game because some people are concerned about the validity of the sources they have read.
Blogs
– Some interesting links for a large segment of the population. Other blogs, CEO www.jimestill.com my blog, have a more specialized audience. But blogs are even smaller, where people write only for their friends (who are not related, and many blog writers do not wait for anyone to read their posts, except for friends). While the Globe and Mail said blogs are abandoned at an alarming rate, Perseus says that most blogs are written by teenagers and updated twice a month to stay in touch with friends and family. This is not to say that many blogs are not being abandoned regularly, often the case, but I just wanted to put things in perspective.
Take with a grain of salt more than one million blogs were created, and after the initial publication, there is no update. Can hardly considered an abandoned blog, because there is still a good blog, in the first place. These links are question-a lifetools input and adolescents are very different from the blogs I read every days and the blogosphere to interact. I think that if they leave, we must assume that is just growing pains, not a sign that blogs are communication tools more viable in the future.
Blogs seem to have staying power as a mode of communication, provided that the authors have the strength as a way of writing. Although individual blogs may come and go, blogs in general, continue to influence popular source of news.
